Privacy Policy
Introduction
This is the privacy policy for WhatYouAte, at http://www.whatyouate.com/. It explains what information we collect and retain about you, why we do so, and how we protect it.

Account Information
We collect the account information that you provide when you sign up, which consists of a username, password, and email address. We also collect information about your time zone and preferred system of measurement, for your convenience when viewing site content.
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act
Children under 13 are not allowed to register for the the site, so we do not collect any personal information about them. Since only registered users can contribute content, children under 13 cannot contribute content to the site in any way.
Public and Private Content
We also collect and publish submissions in public areas of the site. These do not contain any personal information unless you include information about yourself in the content you submit ("I live in Chicago, and I eat lunch at this restaurant every day, wearing a red scarf..."). They are shown as being submitted by your username, though.
If you send private messages to us (for example, support requests or feedback), we will store them. Any messages you send to other users may also be stored by us if you use the site to send them.
Technical Information We Track
We store your computer's IP address and browser type. We also use a "cookie" which lasts until you close your browser, to uniquely identify your web browser once you have logged into the site. We may also use cookies to store preferences you have set for the site.
Third Party Advertising & Statistics
Our pages may contain advertisements and statistical analysis tools provided by third parties. These third parties may use cookies, which are separate from the cookies mentioned above, and/or "web beacons" or "pixel tags" which are tiny images used to detect visits to each page. We do not control these items, so we cannot be responsible for the various privacy policies which they operate under.
Links
Our site may include links to other sites. This may be embedded in advertisements, or content provided by other users, in messages we publish, or incorporated the site itself. Since we do not control these other sites, the privacy policy for this site does not apply to the sites referred to in these links.
Transfer of Information
Our Copyright Policy includes a license that allows third parties to use user-contributed public content without our knowledge, involvement, or specific consent. So, submitting public content to us means that it may later appear in places you didn't expect. (Private content is not licensed in this way.)
We may also disclose your information in aggregate form to third parties, in order to provide information about overall user behavior and demographics.
Security
We make commercially reasonable efforts to keep your account information private to only our employees and contractors, and only then when they need access to it in order to do their jobs. We also make commercially reasonable efforts to keep your private content private. However, like any web site, we can't absolutely guarantee that it will never be disclosed.
Compliance with Law Enforcement
We may disclose your account information, private content, or private messages to third parties if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to do so for legal reasons. These reasons may include compliance with law enforcement requests or processes, or to protect ourselves or others.
Changes and Notification
We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the service at any time, for any reason, without notice. We reserve the right to alter these terms at any time. If we determine that the alterations are significant enough, in good faith and using common sense and reasonable judgement, we will try to notify you via the email address associated with your account. If we notify you, then 30 days later the new terms become effective. So if you disagree, you have 30 days to stop using the site. If you email address registered with us is invalid, we still consider that to be a valid attempt on our part to notify you of the change, and you are still bound by the changes.

If you believe our privacy policy is being violated, send us an email at support@whatyouate.com with a detailed description of the issue and we will investigate it.
